Overview
About Maersk Training
With its headquarters in Northern Europe, Maersk Training is an integral part of the global A.P. Moller – Maersk family, the world-renowned leader in logistics and supply chain management. However, Maersk Training diverges in its mission, focusing not on transporting an astounding 12 million FFE containers annually, but rather on delivering vital, industry-specific training to a diverse range of sectors.
Now Maersk Training has the infrastructure in place to scale up and expand across geographic regions with an easily configurable training architecture that future-proofs their investment.

The goal
A robust, centralized system
Kenneth Thomsen, Chief Digital Officer, pinpointed the requirement for a consolidated and integrated view on the tech stack. This system core would focus on bringing together a gamut of technologies from frontend to backend for an amazing user experience.
Additionally, this pivotal new core would need to be dynamic and adaptable, capable of evolving to embrace emerging opportunities and trends. This ambitious plan would result in a complete digital transformation of the training program.
Challenges
Inflexible systems blocked learner experience and growth
To move against these large goals, the company needed technology that would empower seamless global operations, efficient data management, and integration across disparate systems. Maersk Training faced the following challenges:
Siloed, disparate, and inaccurate data was causing errors and slowing down the flow of the business.
Legacy software was holding them back from offering consistent learner experience, from pre-sale to website to TMS and LMS.
Need for accessible, open software that could be rapidly developed in-house.

Before Administrate, the learner experience was very inconsistent—as was our data, reporting, and processes management. Now, Administrate acts as our source of truth for data, handles planning and scheduling, and gives a reliable platform on which we will build new learner experiences.
Solution
Decoupled tech and centralized training operations
The Maersk Training team decided to take an innovative approach to their learning technology stack, with the goal of providing maximum scalability for the future.
Rather than locking into an all-in-one platform, they selected a headless architecture as the foundation for their learning tech. This solution enabled them to decouple the front end learner experience from backend training operations, allowing them to leverage the most effective tools for each need.
Administrate served as the headless architecture provider. The Administrate training operations platform is extensible infrastructure coupled with a centralized repository for training data, documents, and operations, serving as the core source of truth.
Ryan Murray, Digital Experience Lead, and his team made extensive use of Administrate’s suite of developer-focused tools, Administrate DX, to accelerate in-house development of application, integrations, and bespoke solutions. Maersk was able to leverage Administrate to:
Implement a “single source of truth” for data across the business for smoother operations and more productivity for employees.
Real-time booking experiences for learners, allowing immediate digital transactions for learners.
Faster backend operations and access to an improved customer experience.
Mature, robust developer tools allow bespoke solutions, future-proofing the investment.
